the beach

There's always some magic at the beach.

Wandering around today, the craft types had a fair, and I picked up an exquisite bit of beading. It wasn't cheap :( The work is so small and fine and the colors dazzling. I loved the way it felt in my hand, like a silk, rather than beadwork. I wonder if she dyed the beads herself somehow. I thought I'd hang it on my wall, and the lady said.."no don't do that, you're supposed to wear it, and that's not a Santa Claus, it's a wizard and an amulet bag!"

Cool! But I'll probably wear it only at Christmas :-s, I'm the Wizard of Waaz. I'm looking forward to seeing "Tin Man" on Sci Fi next weekend.

The other neat thing today was that I ran into the author I had tried to contact a few years ago. She does all the binding of her work herself, hardcover, and again I particularly like the way the book feels to the touch. She has a DVD that shows how to build a press and instructions on how to print, illustrate, bind, and publish your own work.

She just happened to be at this fair, so I told her I had been looking for her. I'd sent her a few emails a couple of years ago (her e-mail was in the book), but she never seemed to remember my question, even if I'd sent an email the week previous, so I figured she had Alzheimer's or something.

So, the lady had a press she was selling, and I asked if I could buy it, but she said no. She saw my excitement and wants me to build it myself, because I'll learn more.

That's the way it is at the beach. I suppose she's right.

Actually she's not from this particular beach. I thought she lived in Oregon.
Small world.

Happy Thanksgiving
